Westport, CT, May 14, 2006 – Louis- Marc Lazarre, President of Flavors of Haiti, opened the Art Show on Friday May 12, 2006 at 5.00 p.m. in Westport, CT. The guests had a taste of Haitian Art and raised support for education and health care benefiting underprivileged children in Haiti. “Despite whatever is happening in Haiti, through its art and artists, I want to promote the beauty of my country, and the people’s energy and daily life struggles while helping underprivileged children get education and health care” Louis- Marc Lazarre said. He also announced the opening of the Flavors of Haiti Fine Arts and Crafts Gallery at 111 Front Street Gallery 228 in Brooklyn (Dumbo), New York in June of 2006.
All of the art displayed were produced by Haitian artists. Artwork ranged from watercolor and oil on canvas to sculptures, handmade crafts, and ceramic wall decorations. The artists’ love of nature and humanity’s connection with its natural surroundings were seen through the beautiful and unique use of colors and sketches. Petion Frntz, a native artist of Haiti said: “My paintings express the beauty of nature and its overwhelming impact upon human beings.” Frntz grew up on a farm in Haiti and felt in love with nature at an early age. He has been painting for over twenty years, and his paintings were exhibited in Paris, Cota Voir, and the Dominican Republic.

The two most interesting art works were “the Kennedy,” a painting of John F. Kennedy’s face made from recycled drum, and “The American Flag.” Other paintings captured much of the reality of Haitian daily life and religious practices while giving the viewers a sense of being present with the artist’s thoughts and feelings.

VASE Management in cooperation with Mercedes Arensberg managed the show and provided all the logistics, marketing and pr for the event. Vincencia Adusei, the president of VASE Management LLC, recounts: “This is our first art show event, and it has being challenging. We have, however, successfully managed every aspect of it and I am proud of our team.”
