- The University of Bridgeport
, in collaboration with Vase
Management, is holding a benefit
Friday night to aid the earthquake
victims in Pakistan and India
. It is open to the general
public.
The event, to be held at
the John J. Cox Student Center
, on the Pedestrian Mall and
Myrtle Avenue , will include
a 7 p.m. dinner, followed
by a screening of a movie
on India at 9.The university
has a large international
student population (24 percent)
with 24 of its students from
Pakistan and 454 from India
. At least four of the students
come from the earthquake-affected
areas. All of the students
reported that their immediate
family survived the earthquake,
though some suffered damages
to their homes. One student,
according toYumin Wang in
the International Student
Affairs Office, learned that
his first cousin was killed.
Samiur Rehman, a UB School
of Business student and one
of the organizers of the event,
said, “We at the university
feel it is not only our obligation
but it is our duty to help
our fellow human beings who
are in such a dire need of
food, water and shelter.”
The charges for the benefit
are $12 for faculty and staff
members, $10 for outside guests
and general public, $7 for
UB students and $4 for children.

Student Government Association,
the Business School Club,
Club India, Residence Hall
Association, University's
offices of International Affairs
& Student Programming,
and VASE Management LLC.
